Speech and language therapy

We provide speech and language therapy to all the children who attend our primary school.

Our onsite paediatric speech and language therapist leads a tailored and integrated approach to meeting each pupil’s range of complex needs.

She sees all the children for direct one to one sessions  and provides input to group and classroom work. This ensures we use a consistent approach, enabling the children to apply their communication skills across the curriculum and their wider world.

Total communication approach

We foster a ‘total communication’ approach, appreciating that all children are individuals. We nurture every communicative attempt and help the child build on this. Most importantly, we give all the children the opportunity to develop a sense of themselves as people and as successful communicators.

We also have experience in a wide range of evidence-based approaches and management of Alternative and Augmentative Communication including low tech and high tech devices.

The school is a signing environment. All the school staff learn the Makaton approach, so that spoken language is supplemented appropriately for each child’s level.

Support with feeding

Our speech and language therapist also liaises closely with expert teams throughout London to ensure that all our children can eat and drink confidently and safely.
